DRIVING :: 2006-2007
In a place where so much travel occurs underground and on foot the journeys made through New York City by car are more than simply passage between locations. They are road trips. I drive not only to get somewhere, but also to see the things that I pass along the way: bridges, streets and highways, signs, cars and trucks, buildings, and people in neighborhoods both familiar and unknown. Driving gives me the opportunity to see vast portions of the city, quickly, from street level. Since stopping and getting out of the car in New York City is often impractical and sometimes impossible Iām forced to gather photos of these road trips while I am still in transit and most of the time in motion. These pictures are an expression of my journeys through New York by car, a capturing of the place as it moves on by, the story of a driver in the city.
