WASHINGTON :: 2003-2004
This profile of Washington, DC was made while I continued to struggle with a feeling of disconnection I had with the people and places of the city, where I had lived for nearly seven years. I sought locations for this project distinct from the public face of Washington - monuments and government - by focusing on places that represent the living side of the capital - homes, churches, businesses, and parks. I wanted to create an emotional connection to the city I had called home for so long and make sense of my life in Washington photographically. By collecting these images I re-imagined Washington for myself by creating physical connections to it through pictures.
